U-shaped Curves

I was reading recently about U-shaped toxicity curves (compounds that do not show a linear dose dependence for toxicity). Mechanistically, they don't seem to make sense, at least not at first... but then I have realized that I have a U-shaped preference for chocolate. I am not a chocolate fanatic like some people... but I do like sweet milk chocolate. I recently enjoyed a dessert wine/chocolate tasting, and I discovered that while I don't really like the standard "dark chocolate", I do like the super dark stuff.

Brave new world

This is my attempt at disciplined writing... and also, since I am a scientist by training, an experiment in the world of blogging. I'm not sure if this blog will eventually develop a focus, but the narcissist in me is interested in seeing if anyone will actually read what I write. I read a couple of blogs regularly, and am hooked in the same way that I was many years ago with Rex Morgan, MD, and Another World (did I actually watch a soap opera as a teenager? And not even a cool one?).
